Shipping Cars and Trucks around the Country If you are planning on auto shipping your car or truck across the country, you will need to find a dependable car transport company to get your vehicle to its destination safely. Since your vehicle is one of the most expensive possessions you own, you should take all possible steps to see that it makes it across the country on time and without damage.

Getting personal references from people who recently used auto transport is a good way to start your research. If you are relocating for your job, you may want to check with relocation experts associated with your company or with co-workers who went through the process and are willing to share their experience with the companies they worked.

Once you have collected these personal references, you should conduct research on your own into the companies you have selected. Car shipping experts who are dependable will utilize good quality equipment, effective transportation methods and would back their service with ample insurance.

When you contact them, make inquiries about the maintenance schedule and the age of their haulers, and also the insurance amount covered by their company. Request a free quote with no obligation, and you will find that many auto shipping companies will provide one by phone, email or by fax upon request. Request information on the expected arrival time at your vehicle’s destination, and ask about any guarantees that are provided in case of a missed deadline. If you are dealing with a reputable company they will be very forthcoming with this information and will be able to provide up to date and regular maintenance records on all its car hauler inspections. Also, a reputable auto shipper will provide at least partial refund for missed deadlines.

Having decided on which auto shipping company you will be using, the vehicle will have to be dropped off. The better auto transport companies will pick up the vehicle at your location. Be certain that you retain spare keys just in case the original set is lost during car transportation.

When the car is picked up, it will first be inspected and any damages will be noted in a report, and then it will be loaded into the auto carrier to begin its journey.

At this point a full or partial payment is collected by the shipper before the vehicle is loaded onto the hauler.
At its destination the vehicle will be further inspected and the results noted in the logs.

Transportation costs will be partly determined by the vehicle’s weight. To reduce this charge as much as possible, it is advised that you remove as many things as possible from the vehicle, including the spare tire, and also reduce the fuel in the gas tank before transporting. Of course, all valuables should be removed, since at any time an intruder may break into your vehicle and take anything of value.

Auto transport companies utilize a variety of methods to transport you vehicle between locations. They may start the journey by using car hauler trucks all the way to the final destination, or they may use rail transport to transport the vehicles between transport hubs. Some may use the truck haulers all the way through to the final destination but may pick up vehicles along the freeway route.

Another option with auto transport companies if the choice of choosing between covered and uncovered trailers for your vehicle. The covered choice is more expensive and would be reserved by those people who are seeking a little more protection for their vehicles.

Auto shipping your vehicle across the country has become a very smooth process these days. The most dependable companies will be very forthcoming with information you request of them as regards their operations and maintenance of their haulers. They will also provide warranties on meeting their deadlines, and insurance coverage against any problems or damages that may occur.

However you need to make sure you go only with insured and bonded vehicle shipping company along with door-to-door or workstation and car shipping services. Below given are tips and steps you need to follow before you get in touch with the shipping companies.

Steps to follow:

Clean your car carefully even if would be shipped on any open trailer. It is because you would obviously want to note if there is any chips, damages, nicks or any other cosmetic damage precisely. Take out any personal items available in your car. Many Auto shipping companies are not licensed or bonded and thus will not legally carry any personal items in your car they transport. It would further not probable be covered by insurance.

Shut down and or disable car alarm if you have. It is not possible to be familiar in all of the alarm on hand today, so make it simple for the transport company and disable it. Your Options For Personal Car Transport

Author: Car Transport Prices
June 29, 2010

Of all the ways by which you can move your vehicle, driving it on your own has always been deemed the riskiest. Unfortunately, with the financial crisis still bearing down on us, most cash-strapped individuals are left with little to no choice. Fortunately, there are actually a number of ways by which you can have your car transported without having to neither spend nor tire your body too much.

If you are the type who tends to move around a lot, you might want to consider getting your own trailer and tow vehicle and just drive it. Your trailer, of course, can house your car and a few of your items. This hits two birds with one stone and can dramatically lower the amount of cash you need to spend. This is especially recommended for those who have sports cars as well as high-end cars.

If you rarely need to travel long distances, you can hire a car transporter that provides an open truck. Open trucks are usually 45% to 70% lower than enclosed trucks. Oftentimes, car movers would include insurance in their packages that would cover any damages that your car might incur during transit. A small number of car movers would even cover damages incurred while loading and unloading the car. The only downside to this one is that your car is exposed to elements –sun, rain, snow and heat. You would also run the risk of having your car vandalized although this rarely happens.

Another option is to have someone drive your car. You can ask help from friends or family members to drive your car to your new destination. If you want to keep your car secured, you can get in touch with drive-away agencies and get the services of one of their drivers. Although the drivers do not get paid, they are able to get free car transport services to any destination that you are moving to. This is recommended for short distance travels as opposed to the long distance travels that car shipping providers are best in.

Auto shippers can also come cheap. You would, however, need to have your car at the port at the exact schedule that they give you. Should you be late, there is a great possibility that you would need to have your car’s transport rescheduled. Auto shipping is definitely recommended for moving cars overseas into another country.

Regardless of which method you prefer, be it auto shipping or moving your car with the use of a trailer or a train, getting in touch with a number of auto transporters and comparing what each one has to offer will definitely allow you to save a few more dollars.

Shipping your car may seem like a fairly simple process, but occasionally it can be a maddening adventure. The pickup and delivery times are often an issue of consternation with clients. This brings us to the subject of the language in the contract regarding cancellation of the delivery.

You live in Los Angeles and, miracle of miracles, have been offered a great job in New York City. The only problem is you have to start in five days. In a panic, you start boxing up and shipping your personal items. Next you call a shipping company to have your car transported to New York since you don’t have time to drive it. You agree on a price and sign a contract. The car transport company is supposed to arrive on Saturday morning to pick up the car, which works out great because your flight is Sunday night.

Saturday morning arrives and there is no truck. The afternoon passes and you call the car shipping company. The truck is supposedly on the way. It doesn’t show. The company is closed on Sunday and no truck shows! You fly to New York bent out of shape and with a car stuck in your old garage. You arrange for another company to ship it and have a friend drop it off at their office. A month goes by and you get an invoice for $400 from the first shipping company for “cancellation” of the contract! Now it is rage time!

This scenario happens more than anyone in the shipping industry would like to admit. That being said, you, the miffed client, are going to end up paying the fee. Admittedly, it will probably take a court to force you to do it, but the legal situation is such that you will be liable for the fee because you signed a contract that contained such language in it.

You should read your transport contracts very carefully. Most contain a cancellation clause. The clause is written in favor of the shipping company, which is to say it is written against you. This clause is negotiable and most will remove it. That will only happen, however, if you make a fuss about it. Cancellation fees are some of the biggest points of aggravation with most shipping clients. Make sure you read your contract and avoid any such problems.

Types of car transport

Author: Car Transport Prices
June 27, 2010

Having your car transported requires great considerations. Which company to choose, how much budget to allot, etc. After all, cars are deemed as very important part of life nowadays, to the extent of treating it as though it is a person and a family member. It only follows that getting the best car transport company out there is the first thing to consider. After getting a professional and licensed company, the next thing to think about is what type of car shipping to choose. Contrary to what most people believe, there are different types of transport available. One can either avail of a trailer truck that is relatively cheaper than a pickup truck. The latter is what is also known as the hotshot. The difference in the cost is due to the capacity of the car carriers. For the trailer truck, more than ten vehicles may be loaded and transported. As for the hotshot, only one or two cars will be hauled at a time.

The high cost in transporting with hotshots is compensated by the fact that they can deliver faster and can navigate even in residential areas. Since trailer trucks carry many cars, they are of course, slower in delivery.

Another consideration is whether to have the car transportation in an open transport or a closed one. From the name itself, an open transport entails shipping your car in the open air with no covering or shield, whatsoever. Thus, your car is at risk of being harmed along the way what with the debris in the road and the weather. Nevertheless, the good thing about open transports is that they are generally cheap. In addition, any damage that may occur can be taken cared of by the insurance policy provided by the transport company or your own car insurance company. On the other hand, closed transports entail shipping your car contained inside a carrier, protected from any harm. This special treatment commands a very high cost. However, people with very expensive cars or vintage ones prefer this mode of transport since it gives them a peace of mind.

Still another consideration should you choose an open transport is whether to have the car transported in a multi-car or a single-car trailer. The multi-car trailer is cheaper since many cars are transported at a time. This is the type where there are cars placed on two racks- the top and the bottom. However, this method takes slower in delivery since the cars being transported are owned by different people. For a faster rate, you may choose a single-car trailer. Single-car trailers are used for a single car delivery. This is quite similar to sending a package although this time, it’s a car that needs to be shipped. Needless to say, this is quite costly.

Last option is the single-car flatbed. Aside from having your car transported alone, the flatbed is specially designed to accommodate modified cars or extremely big ones. You may add some items to be transported together with the car.

Important Tips for Car Transport

Author: Car Transport Prices
June 26, 2010

Congratulations! You’re being transferred! Now not only do you have to move your family and possessions, you have to move your car. For most of us, the thought of transporting our vehicles is a daunting task. The following car transport tips will help demystify the process.

Choosing a Car Shipping Service
When we are faced with the overwhelming task of shipping our vehicle, we are often tempted to take the car transport service on their word and let them “do all of the work.” In order to ensure your car is transported safely and you are not charged an arm and a leg, follow these important car transport guidelines:

1. Get multiple quotes. Although it is a time-consuming process, get at least three quotes from different companies. If there is a major difference in fees, find out why. In most cases, you get what you pay for.

2. Check them out. Before you invest time and energy in obtaining a quote, contact the Better Business Bureau office in the city where the car transporter service is located. If there are any complaints about the company, move on. There are many car transport services to choose from.

3. Know what you want. You will be asked a series of questions when you call for your quote, and it’s best to have answers for them in advance. For instance, do you want the car transportation service to pick up your car from your door, and deliver it directly to you? Or would you be willing to drop it off at the terminal and pick up it up at the destination terminal? Also, be prepared with answers to obvious questions, like the make and model of your car, the timeframe for delivery and the exact destination.

4. Get it in writing. Do not rely on verbal quotes or verbal assurances when dealing with a car transport company. Get everything – yes, that means everything – in writing. Before you sign your contract, make sure you have been advised of all fees, including any additional fees that may come up if circumstances change, such as port storage fees.

Most car transport companies cannot guarantee pick up or delivery date, but will give you a window. Be wary of companies that “guarantee” these dates – it is almost impossible for them to guarantee this. Most car transport companies have a cancellation fee as well. Make sure your contract includes a clause allowing you to cancel after the window expires, in case your plans have changed or the car transport company is very late in picking up your car.

5. Check references. Even though you have already contacted the Better Business Bureau, you must check a few references before shipping your vehicle. This does not mean reading the testimonials the company has posted online. Request contact information for a few clients and take the time to call or email them yourself. It’s worth the effort.

Preparing Your Car for Shipment
Transporting your car is not like dropping it off to be serviced. There is much preparation involved before it is picked up for shipment. Follow the following tips and you should be in good shape when its time for your car to make the big trip:

1. Make sure it runs. Most car transport companies require your car to be in working condition.

2. Clean it out. You will need to remove everything except factory-installed equipment before your vehicle can be shipped.

3. Don’t fill up the tank. Car transport companies have rules about how much gas you can have in your tank during transport, usually between ¼ and ½ of a tank. Check your contract for exact requirements.

4. Spare set of keys. Get a spare set of keys made to give the driver from the car transport company. Do not give them your original set.

5. Car title. For International shipments and some other destinations like Puerto Rico, you will need to provide the car transport service with several copies of your vehicle title and a letter from your lienholder authorizing transport.

6. Inspection report. Make sure your car does not leave you before an inspection report is conducted verifying the condition of your vehicle. You may also want to take a few photos of your car with a time and date stamp.

When Your Car Arrives
Plan to spend some time inspecting your car inside and out when it arrives at your destination. This is your chance to address any issues. Once you sign off on the inspection report, you will have no recourse. If you do have a problem or if there is damage to your car, contact the car transport company.

Transporting vehicles can be a pain, but with a little research and know-how, it isn’t too difficult to find an affordable service to move your vehicle wherever it needs to go. Whether you’re looking for car transport in NY or in CA, by adhering to the following guidelines and tips, you can find safe and reliable car transport services to move your automobile anywhere in the country.

Perhaps the most important aspect to consider when hiring a car transport service is insurance. Even if you find the most reliable transport service available, accidents and damages are always possible. And the last think you want, is a wrecked or banged-up car. Because your vehicle is a large investment, it is crucial to ensure that your car transport service offers insurance on your vehicle during transport so that in the case of scratches, dents, or more serious problems, you will receive the money you need to repair the damages.

Although most car shipping services are probably trustworthy, blindly trusting in a service’s honesty is not gamble you should take. Thus, it is always a great idea to take pictures of your car from all sides, particularly of all existing scratches and damages on both the inside and outside. That way, if you spot a new scratch or dent on your vehicle after transport, you can prove that it was not a preexisting condition, and that the car transporter service is responsible.

A good transport service may also offer their own car inspection services, which is valuable because they will document the condition of the vehicle before shipping so that they can compare it to the condition of the vehicle after delivery. Be sure to ask for a copy of the inspection of report before transit so that you can compare the document to your own inspection.

And as with any business or organization, you should check car transportation services out on the Better Business Bureau. On the Better Business Bureau you can read unbiased information about the company and can even see any recent complaints filed against them. Although the BBB may not be able to give you all the information you need, it can easily raise some red flags if there are problems

Also, any good car transport service should be comfortable in providing you with a list of referrals. Talking to people who have used the transport service in the past is a great way to receive honest feedback about the reliability and quality of service of a car transport company. Although it may take some extra time, it may be worth the effort if it helps you find a great auto transport company.

Another thing to check out when finding a great car transport service is delivery options. Different services offer different types of delivery services. Some will pick the car up at your door and drop it off at your new home, while others only pick-up and deliver vehicles at corporate terminals that may or may not be incredibly close to where you live. Although terminal-to-terminal delivery may be more inconvenient, it may also be cheaper than door-to-door service, so it’s best to consider all of your options in relation to your needs.

When hiring a car transport service, it is also important to be clear on the schedule and to schedule in advance. Most transport services can’t pick up a vehicle on just any day of the week. Most ship several vehicles at a time and work off a somewhat flexible schedule. Discussing scheduling with the transport service in-depth long before the time you need to ship your automobile will allow you to have plenty of time to make the necessary arrangements that will best fit their and your schedules.

It is also important to note that because carriers ship several vehicles at once, they have to make multiple stops along their route, which means that it may take several more days than expected to deliver your automobile, so remember to be patient and to expect at least eight to ten days for transit. And although being patient is good, you should also ask if the transport service guarantees punctuality or will deduct a certain amount from the overall price if they’re late. Many quality transport services will offer these guarantees.

Also, many transport services charge by the weight of the vehicle, so a mostly-empty gas tank could potentially save you a few bucks. And as a courtesy to other people using the same transport service, be sure to tell the servicer if your car leaks oil or any other fluids so that they put your vehicle on the bottom row of the trailer. If they put it on the top, the fluids could potentially damage the cars below it.

And of course, one of the best things you can do to find an affordable transport service is to shop around.
